Setup your encoder

YOUTUBE LIVE STREAMING GUIDE

Setup your encoder

In order for your viewers to see your live content, you need to send us an encoded stream.
  1. Launch Wirecast for YouTube and sign in with your YouTube channel name and password under Broadcast --> Broadcast Settings.
  2. Choose your event and click Save.
  3. Configure your audio and video sources. (For more instructions, click the Need Help icon within Wirecast for YouTube.)
  4. When ready to start encoding, click Broadcast button on the top left corner.
  5. Choose to stream to either the Primary or Backup server.
    • For redundancy, you should have two separate machines running; one streaming to the primary and another streaming to the backup.
  6. Click Start Streaming. You are now encoding.
Don't stop here! You still need to start the event on YouTube!
  1. Launch FMLE (make sure have the most recent version) and open the XML profile you downloaded fromIngestion Settings when you created your live event. The encoder settings will automatically populate.
    • For redundancy, you should have two separate machines running; one streaming to the primary and another streaming to the backup.
  2. Configure your audio and video sources.
  3. Click Start. You are now encoding.
Don't stop here! You still need to start the event on YouTube
  1. Copy the YouTube entrypoints from Ingestion Settings to your encoder
    • Stream Name - This identifies your stream on YouTube's servers.
    • Primary Server URL - This is the main server where your stream will be ingested by YouTube.
    • Backup Server URL - This is the backup server where your stream will be ingested by YouTube.
      • Choosing to stream to the backup is recommended but requires double the outbound bandwidth (you are outputting a simultaneous redundant stream). So make sure that you have the internet bandwidth capacity.
      • Ideally, your backup stream should be on an entirely redundant physical encoder.
  2. Configure your encoder using YouTube's recommended encoding settings.
  3. Configure your audio and video sources.
  4. Start encoding
Don't stop here! You still need to start the event on YouTube!
